About Hugo Patenaude

Me Hugo Patenaude is the founder of the firm PATENAUDE Taxation + Trust. Me Patenaude specializes in Canadian and cross-border tax and estate planning. He has over 24 years of experience in these areas, with experience primarily in Montreal’s leading accounting and law firms. Me Patenaude provides his clients with tax and business solutions in matters of trust, estate, Will and business succession. Through his mandates, he helps clients minimize their taxes and protect their assets. He also advises his clients on corporate reorganization and offers valuable strategies for buying, selling and transferring businesses. Over the years, he has developed a unique expertise in tax planning for individuals and corporations. His experience allows him to offer our clients exceptional custom solutions and innovative advice.

Recognized as an expert by his peers, he is a sought-after speaker in his areas of expertise. He regularly gives lectures and has published several articles for various professional organizations. Me Patenaude has been a lecturer at the University of Sherbrooke for 11 years teaching a course on the taxation of trusts as part of the Master degree in taxation program. Since 2014, he lectures a course on the taxation of trust as part of the training program of the Association de planification fiscale et financière. Me Patenaude is a member of the Tax Technical Committee of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners since 2013.

Over the years, Me Patenaude was recognized as a leading practitioner in Canada in the area of Estate and Tax planning by the Canadian legal directory Lexpert (2013-2014) and in the Area of Private clients by Practical Law Company – Which Lawyer? (2008-2013) and by Who’s Who Legal (since 2016).
